We all have stories to tell. Bring a friend, and meet some new ones, at this Hair Party led by Urban Bush Women (UBW). Thoughtful, fun, and sometimes raucous, the Hair Party combines conversation, art-making, and guided movement explorations to encourage you to be your most extraordinary self! Using hair as the organizing principle – how hair color, length, and varying degrees of curl affect our definitions of ‘good hair’ and ‘bad hair’ both within and outside the African American community – we’ll re-examine closely-held beliefs about society, class, race, gender, age, and individual beauty. Open to all members of the community.

Arrive early at 6:00 PM for a pre-event mixer with complimentary appetizers and wine!

UBW is known worldwide for their powerful dances, projecting the voices of the under-heard and people of color. They perform Hair and Other Stories at the Modlin Center on September 27 at 7:30 PM. Party guests will receive a coupon code for 50% off tickets. More info: modlin.richmond.edu

Presented in collaboration with the Modlin Center, Black History Museum and Cultural Center of Virginia, UR Downtown and Bonner Center for Civic Engagement.
